Roof Maintenance Tips
1. Regular Inspections
Regular inspections are crucial for identifying potential issues early before they become major problems. Aim to inspect your roof at least twice a year, ideally in spring and fall, or after severe weather events.
Look for signs of damage such as missing or damaged shingles, cracked caulking around vents and chimneys, rust spots on metal roofs, and any signs of sagging or water stains on the underside of the roof decking.
2. Cleaning Gutters and Downspouts
Clogged gutters and downspouts can lead to water backup, which can damage your roof and fascia (the board running along the lower edge of the roof). Clean gutters at least twice a year, more often if you have overhanging trees.

3. Trimming Overhanging Branches
Overhanging branches can scrape against the roof during windy conditions and can deposit leaves and debris onto the roof and into gutters.
Trim back branches that hang over the roof to prevent damage and minimize debris accumulation. Aim to keep branches at least several feet away from the roof surface to reduce the risk of damage.
4. Prompt Repairs of Damage
Addressing roof damage promptly can prevent further issues such as water leaks and structural damage.
If you notice missing or damaged shingles, cracked flashing, or any signs of water penetration, schedule repairs with a qualified roofing contractor. Delaying repairs can lead to more extensive damage and higher repair costs.
